History
Kaamos Sound started at the end of March 2007. Its founder, I , Tapio Liukkonen, was born on the 14th of October 1981. My hometown is Tervola in North Finland — near the arctic circle where Santa Claus lives; although that didn´t make every christmas present wish true.
As a teenager, I started to dream about movie industry work. Working as a director or cinematographer sounded like a dream career.
I tried to get into media school but didn´t. It wasn´t a big disappointment because I went to local high school to knock some sense in my head.
I passed it with high marks if you ask me.
In traditional Finnish way I went to Military services in the city of Sodankylä. It took one year. I can say that I am a soldier but not Rambo.
I don´t know why but I really liked it. I think part of the reason was the strict rules and discipline they practiced.
In 2001 I finally got a media school placement from Joensuu, eastern Finland. Where I moved after military service. My school was North Carelian Polytechnic. One of the biggest changes of my life came when a teacher asked:
In the desert is one man. He is lost, thirsty and almost dying. He finds a bottle of water, which includes poison. He doesn´t know that. Which sound is pretty universal to this scene that makes the audience realize that the bottle is filled with poison?
This riddle made me realize how powerful sound is as a tool of communication. I forgot about directing and cinematography and started to focus on sound studies. I found my passion for audio production. I want to create my own sound effects, go out and record new sounds. I want to twist, cut, adjust and mix it to get something new, time after time trying to get something new. I want to sit for hours and hours doing this. I want to replace inadequate sounds with perfection. Why all this?
Often I think of that little riddle. The more I think of it the more I know this is what I want to do. I really love recording. This work can be simple but very difficult at the same time. Your results can be really profound and in the best case it can really change the way one perceives a project.
Every job I complete must satisfy me but more importantly satisfy my customer. I am stubborn. If someone says that I can´t do it, it makes me even more determined.
So, here is something from my past and something from my future - Kaamos Sound!
